On Thursday, The President of the United States announced its decision to impose a tariff of 5% on all imports from Mexico starting June 10th (invoking the authorities granted to him under the International Emergency Economics Powers Act). The new tariffs are meant to address the "emergency at the Southern border" created by influx Central American migrants. The U.S. is demanding that Mexico alleviate the migrant crisis. If the actions by Mexico are deemed insufficient, then tariffs will rise to 10% by July 1st, 15% by August 1st, and 25% by October 1st. The 25% will remain in place until Mexico substantially stops the illegal inflow of migrants coming through its territory.

President Trump told reporters on Thursday that he will give Mexico a 1 year warning to take the necessary measures to stop the flow of drugs and migrants into the U.S. The new threat, slapping tariffs on imports of cars from Mexico if this is not achieve.
